Can you get a Vibramycin Prescription Online?

Vibramycin is the brand name of the drug doxycycline. It is used to treat several different bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, chlamydia, gum disease, and more.

Vibramycin can not be purchased over the counter. However, with PlushCare you can consult a doctor remotely and have a prescription sent to the pharmacy of your convenience. Just click here to have an appointment with one of our trusted doctors!

What is Vibramycin?

Vibramycin is an antibiotic drug used to treat bacterial infections in the body. Doxycycline, the drug in Vibramycin, was clinically developed in the 1960s and has been FDA approved for over 50 years. Beyond infections, Vibramycin is used in some instances to treat blemishes, bumps and lesions caused by rosacea.

How does Vibramycin work?

Vibramycin is a tetracycline antibiotic. It stops the spread of an infection by halting the growth of the bacteria. Vibramycin is a short acting antibiotic which passively diffuse through porin channels in the bacterial membrane to compromise the functioning of the bacteria. Although tetracyclines inhibit protein synthesis in both bacterial and human cells, only bacterial cells have a system that allows for the adsorption of the drug, whereas human cells do not. Therefore, only bacterial cells are harmed.

Vibramycin dosage and treatment

Vibramycin comes in the form of an oral pill and should be taken on an empty stomach either an hour or two before/after meals. The usual dosage of Vibramycin is 200 mg on the first day of treatment (divided into 2, taken 12 hours apart), followed by 100 mg taken once a day afterwards. Do not lie down for 10 minutes after taking Vibramycin, and avoid taking it directly before bed.

Each Vibramycin treatment plan will vary between individual patients based on many physical factors. For this reason, it is necessary to always follow your doctors recommended treatment plan.

Benefits of Vibramycin

Vibramycin can help relieve many issues for patients. From helping boost your confidence by reducing acne, to preventing malaria, or reducing swelling in the gums around your teeth, Vibramycin could be the right choice for your health needs.

Considerations and precautions of Vibramycin

Tetracycline antibiotics, such as Vibramycin, are facing an uphill battle against bacteria developing drug resistance. As such, this medication may cause a rare condition, clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

This drug may cause dizziness, and driving should be avoided unless you are sure you can operate safely. Before using Vibramycin, tell your doctor your complete medical history. Those with kidney disease, liver disease or esophagus problems need to consult their doctors about the right course of treatment as Vibramycin may pose health risks.

It is important to stay informed about antibiotics. You may have seen antibiotic resistance in the headlines recently as more public awareness shifts onto the issue. Drug interactions

Vibramycin interactions may include,

  • atovaquone
  • retinoid medications taken by mouth (such as acitretin, isotretinoin)
  • strontium
  • digoxin
  • kaolin pectin
  • warfarin

Although unlikely, this drug may affect hormonal birth control methods and decrease their effectiveness. Ask your doctor for further details.

Who should not take Vibramycin?

Those with a history of liver, kidney, or esophagus complications should talk to their doctor about alternative treatment.
