Rx discount card FAQs

  • What is the best way to save money on prescription drugs?

Prescription drugs can be a significant expense for many people, but there are several ways to save money on them. PlushCare's Prescription Discount Card helps members paying without insurance save up to 80% on prescriptions at most major pharmacies.

Even if you have health insurance, many times, the drug discount card offers a better price on your prescription than your insurance copay.

In many cases, there are also lower-cost alternatives as well as generic versions of brand-name medications that often cost significantly less.

In addition, prescription costs can vary by pharmacy. Use the Rx price finder on the PlushCare iOS app, to help you find the pharmacy near you where your prescription will cost the least out of pocket.

By following these tips and using our drug discount card, you can save a significant amount of money. Don't hesitate to ask one of our trusted doctors for additional tips on how to save money on your medications.
  • What is a pharmacy discount card?

The Prescription Discount Card is a PlushCare member benefit that helps patients save up to 80% on medications at most major pharmacies. It is free to use and works whether you have insurance or not. It is valid at 35,000+ pharmacies in the United States, including CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Albertsons, Kroger, H-E-B, Hy-Vee, and Wegmans.
  • How do prescription discount cards work?

When the RxGroup# and Bin# are entered into the pharmacy’s computer system, the prescription price is discounted based on the pharmacy’s agreement with PlushCare’s third-party provider. We pass the savings directly to our members at no cost. When our doctor sends your prescription to your pharmacy, open the PlushCare app and present the discount card to the pharmacist. Your savings will be reflected at checkout.

If you have further questions or concerns, email us at info@plushcare.com or call our Clinical Operations team at 1-800-221-5140.
  • Do drug discount cards really work?

Rx discount cards can be effective in helping patients save money on prescription medications, but their effectiveness can vary depending on several factors.

Prescription discount cards typically negotiate lower prices with participating pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies and then pass those savings on to cardholders. Cardholders may save anywhere from 10-80% on the cost of their medications, depending on the specific card and the drug in question. However, the effectiveness and costs of Rx discount cards can depend on several factors, including:

    • The specific discount savings card: Not all drug discount cards are equal. Some coupons may offer better discounts on certain medications or at certain pharmacies, while other programs may have restrictions or limitations that make them less effective. The PlushCare Discount Card offers average savings of up to 80% on medications.

    • The type of medication: Some medications may be more expensive than others and may not be covered by certain discount cards.

    • The local pharmacy: Not all pharmacies participate in every discount card program, so it's essential to check if the card is accepted at the pharmacy you usually go to. On the PlushCare app, our Rx Price Finder tool can help you find the pharmacy where your prescription will cost the least.

    • Insurance coverage: If you have an insurance plan, it's essential to check if using a drug discount card will provide more savings than your insurance copay, as they cannot be used in conjunction. Many times, the drug discount card offers a better price than the copays of insurance plans.

  • Can I use PlushCare's Prescription Discount Card if I have Medicare?

PlushCare's Prescription Discount Card can be used by anyone, regardless of whether they have Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D coverage. You can ask your pharmacist to compare the cost of your medication under the discount card with the cost under Medicare to see which option would save you more money.

When you use your PlushCare Discount Card, the pharmacy will process it instead of your Medicare card. For instance, if you have a $100 copay for medication under Medicare, but the price with the PlushCare Discount Card is only $5, the pharmacist can use the discount card to give you the lower price.
  • What prescription medications are subject to a discount?

All FDA-approved brand and generic prescription medications are eligible for a discount.
  • How do I find PlushCare’s prescription discount card?

On your iOS or Android device:

    • Download our app

    • Sign into your profile

    • Once signed in, on the dashboard, you will see a card that says “Save on prescriptions”

    • Click on "Save on prescriptions”

    • Show the card to the pharmacist when you pick up your prescription

  • What if my pharmacist said the Prescription Discount Card would not save me any money or does not work?

As a PlushCare prescription discount cardholder, you are entitled to your benefit. Your pharmacist will not know the card savings until the prescription is sent for pricing on the pharmacy’s computer. Ask the pharmacist or technician to enter the processing information (RxBIN, RxPCN, RxGroup, Member ID) on the front of the card to ensure you receive the absolute lowest price at the pharmacy.

If you have any further questions about prescription discounts, please call our PlushCare SingleCare support line at 1-888-303-6119.
  • Does the doctor need to know about the discount card when writing my prescription?

No, this program will not affect the way you are cared for by your physician. You should, however, always consult with your doctor about how to save money on your prescription medications.

If you have any additional questions, call us at 1-800-221-5140 or email us at info@plushcare.com.
  • I already have insurance, but can I still use the Prescription Discount Card?

Anyone can use PlushCare's Prescription Discount Card. Even if you do have insurance, it's typical for the discount card cash price to be cheaper than a copay on your prescription, so we highly recommend comparing your insurance copay with the discount card price before filling prescriptions. Please note that the discount card cannot be combined with health insurance.

If you have any further questions or concerns, simply email us at info@plushcare.com or call our Clinical Operations team at 1-800-221-5140.
  • Does the Discount Card work at my pharmacy?

The Discount Card is valid at 50,000+ pharmacies, including most major and independent pharmacies. PlushCare is committed to providing affordable prescriptions; if the prescription discount card does not work at your pharmacy and your medication is not affordable, please call us at 1-800-221-5140 or email us at info@plushcare.com.
  • Is the Discount Card insurance?

No, the discount card is not insurance and it does not satisfy the coverage mandate tied to the Affordable Care Act. If you do not have health insurance, you can and should save up to 80%.

If you have any additional questions, call us at 1-800-221-5140 or email us at info@plushcare.com.
