Bydureon prescription FAQs

  • How Does Bydureon Work?

Bydureon works by using tiny microsphere beads that contain exenatide and dissolve over time by continuously releasing medication into your body. This continuous release helps your body create its own insulin and helps to lower your blood sugar levels. It takes about 6-7 weeks for Bydureon to take full effect.

Insulin is a type of natural hormone that your body makes with the beta cells in your pancreas. This process happens because your body takes all the glucose that you consume from carbohydrates and then converts it into energy. Insulin gets released by your pancreas and then sends messages to your cells to get the glucose from your bloodstream. The glucose then converts into energy.

Sometimes you use this energy right away and other times your body will store away the energy for later use. The insulin that your body makes helps regulate the glucose and keeps it from getting too high or too low.

  • What is the Typical Dosage Schedule of Bydureon?

Bydureon is commonly prescribed to take once a week with or without food. It is recommended that you take Bydureon at the same time and on the same day each week. If you miss a dose of Bydureon, you should take it as soon as you remember, but only if there are at least three days until your next scheduled dose. If there are less than three days until your next scheduled dose, then skip the missed dose until your next regular dosing day arrives.
