If you have bad cholesterol and have been unable to lower your triglycerides and LDL-C by changing your diet and exercising then taking medication like Lipitor might be right for you. Read more about Lipitor, how it works, and how to get a prescription online.

What is Lipitor?

Lipitor is the brand name of a statin medication known as atorvastatin. It is prescribed by doctors to help lower your triglycerides and cholesterol in your blood. Lipitor also helps increase the levels of HDL cholesterol, which is the “good” cholesterol that your blood needs.

Because high cholesterol levels may increase your risk of heart disease, Lipitor is sometimes offered to patients who have an existing heart condition so they can lower their risk of a heart attack or other cardiac issues. Lipitor can also be prescribed to people with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, people who have a history of smoking, or other conditions that may put them at risk of heart disease.

Does Lipitor Have Any Side Effects?

Lipitor has mild side effects such as light nausea, diarrhea, and mild muscle pain. However, Lipitor may cause serious side effects in some patients. Consult your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • Cognitive issues such as memory loss or confusion
  • Unexplained weakness or muscle pain
  • Unusual fatigue or drowsiness
  • Dark-colored urine or less urination
  • Weight gain or swelling
  • Increased thirst, dry mouth or dry skin
  • Jaundice
  • Severe nausea or stomach pain

How Do You Use Lipitor?

Lipitor should be taken orally once a day with or without food or as directed by your medical professional. The dosage will be based on your age and other health factors such as your medical history, response to treatment, and other medications you are currently taking.

While taking Lipitor, you should avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Grapefruit has been known to increase the amount of Lipitor in your bloodstream.

If you are taking other medications to lower your cholesterol that are bile acid-binding resins such as colestipol or cholestyramine, you should take Lipitor at least one hour before or four hours after using these bile acid-binding medications.

What is a Good Schedule for Taking Lipitor?

It is important to take Lipitor regularly and at the same time each day. It may take up to four weeks to acquire the full effects of this medication. One suggestion is to connect the timing of taking Lipitor with something you do every day such as brushing your teeth, taking a shower, or eating breakfast.

Can You Get Lipitor Online?

Luckily, you can get a prescription for statins such as Lipitor through a telehealth website like PlushCare.com.
