Can You Get An Albuterol Inhaler Prescription Online?

You can now receive a prescription for the popular bronchodilator, albuterol, now entirely online. All you need to do to receive your albuterol prescription is book an appointment with a doctor for an online consultation. PlushCare’s doctors can write prescriptions and prescribe refills.

Albuterol is in a class of medications called bronchodilators that alleviate difficulty breathing brought about by lung conditions. It’s a popular treatment for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bronchodilators help ease shortness of breath or breathing problems that are commonly found in people with asthma, COPD, or other conditions that affect the lungs.

Albuterol For Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that is often characterized by excessive wheezing and shortness of breath. These episodes are typically caused by allergies and exposure to certain airborne particles such as pollen and dust. Other triggers include infections, physical activity, cold air, certain medications, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and even preservatives and sulfites found in some foods and drinks.

Allergies to dust or pollen can cause spasms of the smooth muscle lining the airways. This is known as an asthma attack. If you have a sudden onset of difficulty breathing or wheezing that does not improve after using your inhaler, seek emergency care.

Smooth muscle spasms will cause wheezing as a person with asthma tries to push the air out of their lungs past these obstructions. The lungs will also produce copious amounts of mucus, which will lead to clogging and swelling along the air passages.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Because asthma often changes over time, it’s important that you work with your doctor to track your signs and symptoms and adjust your treatment as needed.” Medicines like albuterol, which is now available through an online inhaler prescription, work to normalize the airflow through the air passageway by relaxing the smooth muscles in the airway, providing relief.

Albuterol Treatment For COPD

Another common lung disease that an albuterol treatment is used to medicate is COPD. COPD is a condition most commonly caused by exposure to tobacco and other environmental pollutants.

Exposure to pollutants and tobacco smoke causes inflammation of the airways. Inflamed airways produce excessive mucus and cause spasms of the smooth muscle lining the airways. Chronic inflammation, over time, can cause scarring which permanently alters the tubes leading into the lungs.

Prolonged exposure to tobacco smoke and pollution eventually causes extreme difficulty in breathing. Albuterol targets the bronchial smooth muscles of COPD sufferers, inducing relaxation of the smooth muscle  which alleviates your symptoms.

Is Albuterol A Steroid?

No, albuterol does not contain any steroids. It is a sympathomimetic bronchodilator and works to relax the muscles in the airway that tighten during an asthma attack.

Inhaled corticosteroids are another type of inhaler that contain steroids and are often used as a preventative treatment.Treatment of asthma and COPD can be complex and require using several medications in combination.

Using Albuterol Breathing Treatments

Breathing problems not only result in the loss of time from essential activities such as school, work, and exercise, but are also uncomfortable and can lead to medical complications.

Medications like albuterol provide relief to those with lung problems, and the ease of ordering prescriptions and refills online makes getting relief fast and straightforward.

Albuterol is delivered through an inhaler administered through the mouth. The process requires wrapping the lips around the device with your lips closed. Deep breaths are steadily taken with each prescribed puff. The breath is held for 10 seconds to allow the medicine to work. Patients should feel relief immediately. If you do not get relief after using your inhaler, contact your doctor or seek emergency care, depending on the severity of your symptoms.

If an albuterol prescription is used for exercise-induced asthma, then it should be used 15 to 30 minutes before engaging in exercise. If the medication is being used by a child, a parent or responsible adult will need to help the minor use the inhaler properly. It is vital for those who are prescribed albuterol to always keep their inhaler with them.

After using the inhaler for the prescribed number of inhalations, do not continue using the inhaler as it may cause serious side-effects if misused. If you experience any new or worsening coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, or other lung-related issues, consult your doctor for guidance.

Lastly, if your condition does not improve with the use of this medication, you should consult with your doctor about alternative treatment options.
