What is Atacand?
Lowering high blood pressure is key to helping reduce your risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
How Does Atacand Work?
Atacand is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (or ARB) which block the body’s angiotensin II chemical, which is responsible for narrowing your blood vessels. ARBs have similar effects to ACE inhibitors, another type of blood pressure drug, but function slightly differently.
By relaxing the tension in the blood vessels, your heart is able to pump blood more easily. This reduces physical stress on the heart, and in turn lowers the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiac complications.
Atacand Dosage and Treatment
In adults over 18, the initial recommended dosage is 4 mg once daily, doubled over two week intervals, until a 32 mg once daily is reached. Please keep in mind, these are recommended dosage amounts, and those taking Atacand should always follow their doctor’s specific directions.
In children, your doctor’s treatment plan will vary based on numerous health factors. Atacand in not recommended for those under one year old.
Benefits of Atacand
Atacand allows your heart to pump with more efficiency and ease by loosening your blood vessels. This lowers your blood pressure, and will reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems. Atacand can also be used to treat adults with heart failure.
