I joined PlushCare to explore the role of technology in serving unmet healthcare needs.
A graduate of Stanfords Internal Medicine Residency, U. Penn (MD and MS), and Barnard College, Dr. Anegawa has 13 years experience in primary and urgent care and recently added obesity medicine to her practice. I was drawn to this new specialty after a decade of failing to help patients by telling them to eat less and exercise more I felt there had to be something else going on that we doctors had been missing. I recently became board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine in addition to Internal Medicine, and I feel Ive gained tools to help patients in a whole new way. When not treating PlushCare patients or those struggling with obesity, Dr. Anegawa stays busy as Clerkship Director in Medicine for University of Hawaiis Medical School, Medical Director of an integrative physical medicine practice, and an industry consultant. I have a super busy schedule but like it that way, and it all works out thanks to Google calendar!
What’s your role at PlushCare?
I take care of our patients, first and foremost. I also provide feedback and ideas about how to grow and evolve the practice experience so we provide the best patient care possible.
Why did you decide to join the PlushCare team?
I enjoy being part of a small company thats still in the rapid growth phase. PlushCare seemed like an amazing practice concept that performs a great service for patients, and it really is. I continue to practice with PlushCare because we stand apart from the big guys in telemedicine: we provide personalized care by the best-trained doctors in the USA, we are affordable, and we give back to the community.
What’s your proudest personal or professional moment?
The first time a patient hugged me and literally cried on my shoulder (obviously, not over the internet – online medicine does have some limitations).
Where do you love to retreat to in the Bay Area?
Windy Hill just outside of Portola Valley. Its not far from the crowds, but hiking up into the marine layer makes me feel like Im a million miles from everything.
Name the best piece of health advice you’ve ever received.
If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health. ? Hippocrates
