Can You Get a Keflex Prescription Online?

Also called cephalexin monohydrate, Keflex is a medication that’s used to treat bacterial infections.

Before being able to purchase Keflex, you must get a prescription from your doctor. Many ask whether it’s possible to acquire a prescription for Keflex online, and the answer is yes. Can you benefit from the use of Keflex and should you seek a prescription for it? Find out here.

What is Keflex?

Keflex is a first-generation cephalosproin that’s prescribed to treat infections including respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, an genitourinary infections, to name a few.

How Does Keflex Work?

Keflex’s main active ingredient is called cephalexin monohydrate, which works to prevent the growth of the bacterial cell-wall to ease the breakdown of the bacterial organelles. This prevents bacteria from propagating and thus resolving the infection.

Keflex Dosage and Treatment

Make sure to follow the dosage instructions your doctor provides to guarantee the efficacy of Keflex. Strictly abiding by the dosage amount and schedule will help limit the risk of side effects and adverse reactions. Abstain from altering the schedule or from adjusting the dosage yourself. Also make sure to discuss your medical history and background with your doctor to help them accurately assess the ideal dosage for your case.

Keflex dosages vary from person to person, and your doctor may prescribe you a different schedule and amount depending on your unique situation.

The common dosage for Keflex when administered to adults is 250 mg every 6 hours. In some cases, your doctor may opt to let you take 500 mg every 12 hours. The entire treatment period may span from 7 to 14 days.

If your doctor suspects that you have a more severe infection, it’s possible that they might prescribe the medication in larger doses. Typically, severe infections may call for up to 4 grams of Keflex daily, administered in 4 equally divided doses.

For pediatric patients, the dosage of Keflex depends on their body weight. This may vary from 25 to 50 mg per kilogram of body weight, depending on the extent of the infection. For more severe pediatric infections, doctors may prescribe up to 100 mg per kilogram of body weight. Treatment period will also typically span from 7 to 14 days.

For the treatment of β-hemolytic streptococcal infection in pediatric patients, the treatment will usually span 10 days. For the treatment of otitis media in children, doctors will likely prescribe between 75 to 100 mg per body weight.

Benefits of Keflex

Keflex helps to resolve bacterial infection, stopping the spread of bacteria and allowing normal bodily functioning to resume.

Side Effects of Keflex

Much like all other medications, Keflex comes with its unique list of side effects. Discuss the risks with your doctor prior to use to determine whether the benefits of Keflex will exceed its potential dangers for your specific case.

If you suffer from any of the following conditions, it’s you should avoid the use of Keflex:

  • Colitis
  • Renal dysfunction
  • Liver disease
  • Seizure disorders

Breastfeeding or pregnant women should also consult with a physician before using Keflex. Individuals undergoing dialysis may not be eligible for the use of this medication.
